Florida-based Gene Bates was one of the original architects along with Johnny Miller in 1989. In 2007, Gene returned to modernize the features and playability of Binks Forest, while preserving the integrity of the course's original design. Bates, named "Golf Course Architect of the Year" in 2005 by The BoardRoom magazine, has had one of his designs named a "best new" course by national publications such as GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest in each of the past four years. Binks Forest Golf Club was named one "One of the Top 5 Renovated Golf Courses in America" by Golf Inc. Magazine in 2007.

In addition to this national acclaim, the readers of the Sun Sentinel voted Binks Forest Golf Club "The Best in the West Golf Course" for 2008 in a competition which pitted Binks up against all courses west of the Florida Turnpike. The redesign of the course has added yardage to the Championship tees and made the forward tees more user friendly. Additional tee boxes have been added for women and juniors in which there are no forced carries over water. The finished product is a delightful golf course which is challenging and enjoyable for players of all abilities.
